Freedom in the Four Noble Truths Online Class Series
Twelve Week Class Series (1/6-3/24)
With Matthew Daniell
Prerequisite: Ongoing Students
We can approach life with an attitude of seeing the glass half full or half empty. We can see obstacles or ways ahead. How we relate to the realities of our life has tremendous implications to the quality of our life and those around us. The central axis around which the Buddha’s teachings are framed are the Four Noble Truths: Suffering (or discontent), its Cause (unwise clinging and wrong view), inner Freedom, and the Path to realize this possibility. Freedom can be approached in two ways: as something we touch through cultivating the path of calm and insight, and also as something that is inherent in the nature of our minds and hearts that we can simply learn to recognize and become familiar with.
In this 12 week practice series grounded in the early teachings of the Buddha and inspired by those of Zen, Thich Nhat Hanh, Tibetan, and other wisdom traditions, we will explore the Four Noble Truths with an emphasis on touching freedom in the here and now. This may help us to wake up to a fresher more resilient way of being in our formal practice and daily lives.
Registration for this class series is closed. You had to be registered for the entire series that runs 1/6-3/24 in order to attend. There are no drop-in classes.

Mindfulness "Living in the Time of Covid-19" Online Drop in Practice Sessions
With Matthew Daniell
These drop-in sessions are tailored for online practice. A 25-35 minute mindfulness meditation will be followed by individual sharing. Everyone will have a chance to talk about how they are working with being present to the realities of this unique and difficult time. Together, we have the opportunity here to create a much needed community of support, based on mindfulness and compassion. New and experienced meditators alike are welcome to attend.
On alternate weeks, Matthew will lead a Loving Kindness drop-in session. Together, these mindfulness and loving kindness sessions may support a skillful balance in our ‘stay at home’ practice.

Practice Oriented Book Group
(Six Week Series 1/12-3/23)
Prerequisite: Ongoing Students
You Are Here, Discovering the Magic of the Present Moment by Thich Nhat Hanh teaches the path to awakening through mindfulness and compassion. He reminds us that “The heart of Buddhist practice is to generate our own presence in such a way that we can touch deeply the life that is here and available in every moment.” With simple, yet profound explanations of the Dharma, he offers teachings and practices to work skillfully with our past, heal our wounds and pain, and cultivate true love.
One of the most well known and loved Buddhist teachers in the West, Thich Nhat Hanh is a monk, teacher, activist, and author. He suffered a stroke in 2014 and has been recovering at Plum Village, the Buddhist Center in France that he founded. On his 94th birthday, Oct. 11, 2020, his health was stable, thanks to the care of his medical team and monastic community.
This series runs every other week 1/12,1/26, 2/9, 2/23, 3/9, 3/23. You must be pre-registered to attend.

Online Introduction to Insight Meditation
Five Week Class (2/11-3/11) Registration Open
With Ted Jones
Prerequisite: Beginner
Insight meditation is a time tested method of mind training that enables us to change our relationship to each moment’s experience, and thus our lives. In this five week series we will systematically explore how to calm and steady the mind and see with more clarity into our lives. As we strengthen this capacity we begin to move from suffering and reactivity to responsiveness, freshness and ease. We learn to touch and live in the mindful moment.
The class will include sitting instructions and shared silent practice, as well as instruction and practice of walking and other forms of mindfulness practice designed for application in daily life. Although this series is designed for beginners, all are welcome and students may choose to repeat this series as new material will be introduced each time. The sessions will run from 7:00-8:30pm from 2/11-3/11. They will include sitting instructions and shared silent practice, as well as instruction and practice of walking and other forms of mindfulness practice.
Once you have registered for this class you will be sent a confirmation email, along with the Zoom link.

Loving Kindness and Compassion; An Online Retreat
With Matthew Daniell
The Dalai Lama said that “love is a not a luxury, but a necessity,” yet in our hearts we often do not feel love for ourselves or others and we bear the painful consequences. In this workshop, we will explore time tested Buddhist practices which tap the power of intention through offering phrases of loving kindness (metta) to ourselves and others. When cultivated, loving kindness practice helps us to heal our own hearts by loving ourselves more deeply. It can also help us touch those in our lives and the world with a deeper sense of love and connection. All are welcome.
Registration for this retreat will close on Saturday, February 13th at 8:30am.

Seven Ingredients of Awakening: The Jewel of Mindfulness
An Online Talk
With Rebecca Bradshaw
In our spiritual journey, seven ingredients are considered essential for the development of the awakened heart and mind. These factors are mindfulness, investigation, energy, joyous interest, tranquility, concentration, and equanimity. These qualities are both the fuel for our journey and the fruits of our practice. Together they balance the heart and mind and prime them for the deepest kind of happiness. Over the coming months we will explore these qualities and strengthen them in our own experience. The greatest impact will be obtained from taking these programs as a series, however they can also be taken individually.
We will begin with mindfulness. So much has been said about mindfulness, is there anything left to say? Yes! Mindfulness is a quality that is absolutely essential for the transformation of our hearts and minds and we can continue to deepen it over time. In this Friday night and Saturday morning program, we will explore different facets of the jewel of mindfulness, including what strengthens and broadens it and how we can support its development.
Friday night will include meditation, a dharma talk about the seven ingredients of awakening and how we can use them to balance our practice, and time for questions and answers.
Saturday morning will include more in-depth exploration of the first factor of awakening, mindfulness. We will engage in meditation practice, a dharma talk and discussion.
Once you have registered for this talk, you will receive an email confirmation with the Zoom link.
To sign up for the Saturday retreat only or the combo talk and retreat, please go to "Online Retreats and Workshops" and click on the "Seven Ingredients of Awakening: The Jewel of Mindfulness" retreat/combo link.
