The Buddha's Teaching on Free Inquiry: The Kalama Sutta
A 13-week Class Series (9/8-12/1)
With Matthew Daniell
Prerequisite: Ongoing Students
Registration is now closed for this class which began on 9/8. There are no drop-in classes.
In this 13-week practice group we will explore in detail the Buddhas Kalama sutta on ‘free inquiry’. This seminal Sutta (teaching from the early teachings by the Buddha) captures the spirit of knowing experience for oneself, and not relying on any external authority, as well as using the ‘the wise’ as a standard for action. The sutta moves in detail through free inquiry, the forces that block clarity of the mind and heart and practices of love, compassion, joy, and equanimity. Overall, this teaching provides a balanced and full approach to the unique path of clarity and openhearted living of the Buddha.
Ongoing Covid precautions: At this point we are not requiring masks at the Center as proof of full vaccination is required for participants and staff (if you would like to wear a mask, you are welcome to). As an added precaution, if you have cold or flu like symptoms, we ask that you do not attend any offering until you have had a negative quick covid test. At any teachers’ discretion, masks may be required. This will be posted in their offering’s description.
Registration is now closed for this class series. You must be registered for the entire series; there are no drop-ins.

Loving Kindness for the Holidays
This offering will now be held online on Zoom
With Matthew Daniell
The Dalai Lama said that “love is a not a luxury, but a necessity,” yet in our hearts we often do not feel love for ourselves or others and we bear the painful consequences. In this workshop, we will explore time tested Buddhist practices which tap the power of intention through offering phrases of loving kindness (metta) to ourselves and others. When cultivated, loving kindness practice helps us to heal our own hearts by loving ourselves more deeply. It can also help us touch those in our lives and the world with a deeper sense of love and connection. Touching love for ourselves and others can be especially helpful during the holiday season with all of its inherent stresses. All are welcome.
12:30 pm to 3:00 pm
