The Eight worldly winds are pleasure and pain, praise and blame, fame and disrepute, gain and loss. These forces 'blow' throughout our lives and remind us that we are not in as much control of circumstances as we would like. When we try to live life in a fixed way in relation to these powerful changing forces we suffer. In this series of classes we will systematically explore these four sets of opposing forces, as well as other oppositional energies (right vs wrong, us vs them...) as they function in our daily lives. Through the Buddha's 'Middle Way' (not going to extremes) teachings, mindfulness and loving kindness practices we will explore for ourselves how to bring greater calm, balance, and care in the face of such forces. As practice matures we may even be able to embrace them as a natural and important part of our path of awakening.
