The Science and Practice of Mindfulness
Saturday, May 21, 2022 - 10:00 am to 4:30 pm
An On-Site Full Day Workshop with
Matthew Daniell and Effie Stavrulaki
Modern science has increasingly provided validating evidence for the efficacy of mindfulness, demonstrating its benefits to mental, physical and emotional health. In this workshop, we will present a range of mindfulness-related scientific studies. This will be complemented by an experiential exploration of the Buddha's mindfulness practices of calming and steadying the mind and heart through body and breath awareness and the wisdom that comes from open, clear seeing.
This program will be co-led by Effie Stavrulaki, who has extensive experience as a researcher and is trained to teach secular mindfulness, along with our guiding teacher Matthew Daniell, who is steeped in traditional practices. Together, they will lead us in exploring the integration of a scientific and experiential understanding of these transformative practices.
Effie Stavrulaki, Ph.D., is a long-time meditation practitioner and a community program leader at IMCN. She has a certificate in Positive Psychology from Whole Being Institute and is a certified teacher of Koru Mindfulness, which specializes in teaching mindfulness to college age adults. She is an Associate Professor of Management at Bentley University. She has developed and teaches mindfulness and positive psychology courses and is a published author in the science of mindfulness. Presently she is in the process of becoming a UCLA certified Trainer as a Mindfulness Facilitator.
